Palmetto Parkway Bike Path

A good workout

September, 2025 by mlcain9595

I rode the Palmetto Parkway bike path in North Augusta, SC for the first time this morning at 7 AM. The total ride, out and back, was 9.5 miles, according to my Ride With GPS app. The elevation change was 788 feet. The path was well maintained and I was the only cyclist on the trail. I saw no walkers. if you like hills, the trail is a good way for one to get a workout. As expected, I could hear cars on the adjacent highway, but I rarely saw one. The path is separated by a fence, berms, and plantings. I crossed three minor roads and two major roads. The major roads had pedestrian, crossing signals, making it easier to cross. The parking area at the trailhead seemed safe. I was the only one parking there.

Morning Routine

We do this trail by bike nearly every morning to get the day started. Refreshing and pretty easy. End to end and back usually takes less than about 50 minutes for us.

Spanish Moss Trail

Wonderful trail

June, 2025 by dan.duggan

My wife and I took a three week bike trip in late Feb 2025, and happy we started with Spanish Moss. Nice flat, wide trail with different views of the area including neighborhoods, moss covered woods, water views and some commercial areas. There were a few busy road crossings, but nothing to worry about. Lot’s of historic sites along the route including the train station. And of course, lot’s of Spanish moss along the way, which for us northerners is quite the treat. Add this one to your list.

Spanish Moss Trail

This trail is one of the best. Entire trail was concrete and very smooth. Passed by Marine base with Great timing seeing 2 launches and one return trip of military jets.

Really nice trail to ride. We did have some trouble finding the trailhead but other than that, we enjoyed the ride.

Long sustained climbs on a very unused trail. No baby strollers or dogs on this one! Solitude

Well Maintained

Good flat trail that is well maintained. Many cyclists and folks walking pets in the later afternoon. Enjoyed my ride time but giving only a 4 star due to many road crossings that can be dicey depending on time of day even with cross signals.

Fairly flat concrete path. Well maintained. Had some things to stop and read about historic buildings that surrounded the path. Great scenery along the way

Spanish Moss Trail

Trail in great shape

June, 2024 by mbretscher_tl

This is a wide, all concrete trail & is in great shape. It’s getting a 3 star rating because it has some hazardous crossings on busy roads. At one crossing, although we had triggered the pedestrian crossing signal, we were almost hit by cars ignoring the red light for them. Be very cautious when using this trail. The south end of the trail is closed with a detour. The detour involved riding a very narrow sidewalk along a busy highway. There is not room to pass a pedestrian or another bike on the sidewalk. We turned around rather than continue. Not sure how long the detour will be in effect.
